Nizhny Novgorod State Medical Academy is one of the leading centers for training medical practitioners in Russia. The Academy is named after the city Nizhny Novgorod where it is located. To its credit and dedication this Academy is ranked at number 7 of the 46 higher medical institutions in Russia and is highly acknowledged by World Health Organization and is approved by the governments of almost all the countries which send their students to this academy for gaining superior medical education and training.

The medical faculty came into existence in the year 1920 and was known as the faculty of Nizhny Novgorod University. In May 1930 it became an independent Medical Institute and in June 1994 it acquired the position of being the State Medical Academy. Nizhny Novgorod State Medical Academy (NNSMA) opened the faculty of overseas admission in the year 1992 and since then thousands of students particularly from Asia, Africa and Latin America (Sri-Lanka, India, Malaysia, Morocco, Tanzania, Kenya, Syria and others) are being trained in Medicine, Dentistry and Pharmacy. NNSMA has strength of more than 600 plus students enrolled each year.

NNSMA has a well trained, qualified and specialized staff of 722 among them there are 76 professors and 145 associate professors. Faculty of Overseas Admissions has a staff of 166 specialists which rightly includes 32 professors and 56 associate professors. NNSMA has a unique pattern of educating its students. The class consists of 8 to 10 pupils who are closely and attentively monitored and attention is paid even to their least essential educative demands. NNSMA has a sprawling campus of 8 unique mega buildings, the clinical studies are conducted in well-equipped clinics and multi bedded private and government hospitals. A significant part of the training begins with the observation of patients that aims at improving clinical contemplation of the students.

The Academy actively collaborates with scientific centers of Russian Academy of Science and Russian Academy of Medical Science as well as with the most prestigious Universities of Europe and USA. Nizhny Novgorod State Medical Academy pays special attention to its integration into the system of the continuous medical instruction and participation in drawing up educational systems of European countries using advanced achievements of Russian and foreign specialists. Due to its brilliant reputation and high educational standards, the Academy is popular among undergraduate and postgraduate students from all over the world. Curriculum is made keeping in mind international requirements and standards of the medical education; during the period of studies students participate at international scientific seminars and academic exchange programs.
